Hello everyone, yesterday was a filled day of fantasy news but today it slowed down just a bit as there wasn’t any big breakout days like on Friday. Still there is plenty to go over. There’s always room for more fantasy news, ALWAYS. So let’s get to it and find out what happened Saturday night in fantasy baseball!
Wilin Rosario: 3-4 with a run, a home run, and one RBI. He is one of the best catchers in baseball on one of the best teams. That was his sixth home run yesterday and is now hitting .333 with a .351 OBP. Should be starting in all leagues and you lucked out if you snagged him a little later than expected. Already on pace for more than 30 home runs, so let’s hope he keeps this pace.
Travis Hafner: 2-4 with one run, a home run, a triple, and four RBIs. He still is only a utility spot in all fantasy leagues but he still is crushing the ball and could be a viable option for anyone. Hafner hit his sixth home run and Pronk actually chugged and chugged around the bases for a triple. Grabbing four out of the five runs for the Yanks, if he remains hot, he should be added now.
Shin-Soo Choo: 1-3 with one run, a home run, one RBI, and a walk. Choo is my favorite fantasy player to start the season so far. He is hitting a beastly .360 with a .504 OBP and I’m the kind of guy who loves on base percentage. Again you shouldn’t think twice about starting him and you should expect great production from him year round.
Bryce Harper: 2-3 with two runs, a home run, two RBIs, and a walk. This kid is in the recap every weekend. Harper hit his ninth home run yesterday against the Reds and raised his average to a .373 with an OBP of .453. He’s only 20 and he’s doing this kind of damage! Already has over 30 hits, has 17 runs, and 18 RBIs, this kid isn’t going anywhere and good luck if you’re going against him in league play.
Nate McLouth: 3-5 with one run, a home run, and two RBIs. McLouth only hit his first home run of the year yesterday but is taking huge strides in the right direction so far in 2013. Not only is he hitting .319 with a .434 OBP, he is amongst the tops in steals. He should be owned in most leagues, especially as the leadoff man for the Orioles. He’s shown he has power in the past so this home run could be the start of something. Add him and he could surprise you.
Josh Donaldson: 4-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. He’s sliding under the radar as a good production fantasy option at the hot corner. Donaldson bumped his average up to .318 and .384 OBP. Providing runs and RBIs so far this year he’ll 100 percent give you some depth going forward and is worth an add in my book. If not at least add him to the watch list.
A.J. Burnett: 6IP, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 3BB, and 6Ks. Now sporting a 2.83 ERA and a 2-2 record, Burnett was able to keep the Cardinals at bay for the win. After his move to the NL last year he’s found his way. He’s attacking the zone more and his crazy mean curveball is fooling everyone. Burnett should be in all lineups and starting every time. His bullpen also helps him out after he is relieved, which is what exactly happened yesterday.
Mark Melancon: 1IP, 1 hit, and 1 K. Everyone needs a setup man just to help with ERA and strikeouts every once in awhile. In some leagues, like mine, holds is a category and right now Melancon is one of the best setup guys in 2013 so far. He has 14 total innings with 12 strikeouts and nine holds. If you’re league is using setup men he is the one to grab! Did I mention he has a 0.64 ERA.
Jason Grilli: 1IP, 2 hits, 1 earned run, and 1 K. Like I said Burnett has a solid bullpen to help him out once he is lifted. Melancon and Grilli are one of the best eighth and ninth inning guys right now in baseball. Grilli notched save number 10 last night and now has an ERA of 0.82. I hope he isn’t sitting in free agency still because he is one of the best, if not the best, closer right now.
Ervin Santana: 7IP, 6 hits, 0 earned runs, 0BB, and 5Ks. He’s really turned a new corner with the Royals. We’ve seen in the past he had the stuff but lost it in 2012. What is lost can be found as Santana has been lights out with KC. Now 3-1 and a 2.00 ERA in 2013 so far, he should be in all lineups. The Indians didn’t stand a chance and the only runs came in the ninth off closer Greg Holland.
David Ortiz: 2-3 with three RBIs. Big Papi is back and it looks like he never left. He’s only been back for a little over a week and has two homers, nine RBIs, and 14 hits with a .519 average and a .533 OBP. He should have been re-entered into all lineups when he was activated from the DL, but if you haven’t yet get your stuff together and start him. If anything you can sell high early and get some descent pieces for him if you don’t have room for the slugger.
Matt Moore: 6IP, 3 hits, 1 earned run, 1BB, and 9Ks. Like I’ve said in the past it looks like Moore has found his way finally after his first couple years in the league. He dominated the White Sox last night to remain perfect at 5-0 and lowered his already impressive ERA to a 1.13. Moore is a scary lefty and someone who will give huge fantasy numbers throughout the year in all formats.
Felix Hernandez: 8IP, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 1BB, and 7Ks. He is 3-2 and has a 1.90 ERA. Still showing he is King Felix, he dominated the Angels, who still seem to be slumping. Felix can shutdown any team he wants to when he’s on. Another CY Young candidate like every other year he pitches.
Brandon Crawford: 1-5 with one run, one home run, and three RBIs. Last year he showed us all he had some pop in his bat and this year he’s showing us even more things he can do. Crawford is turning into a power shortstop with great contact skills. Not only is he getting on base and scoring, he is producing in many other categories. Now hitting .298 with a .366 OBP he should be owned in most leagues as one of the top infielders right now. That was his fifth homer last night and could be a help to someone who has injuries. Keep a solid eye on him.
